General Guidelines
First off, read and re-read the instructions that come with the
Savers. If after reading or receiving your Headlight Savers you don't
feel comfortable installing them, either don't buy them or don't install
them and return them for a refund.
This is how we successfully installed them on our Miata.
|
Both the lens surface and the savers must be warm when applied
Do Not - get your finger prints on the adhesive side. If you must
grab them, to pull them off to reposition them, sandwich the savers
between a piece of the backing material.
The material is extremely pliable. You can stretch and mold it to
fit any curve. If fact, it is possible to stretch them so much that
they will be bigger than the lights.
The material is completely reposition able for 24 hours. So if you
get them down, and discover you really screwed up, you can pull them all
the way off and start over. But be very careful about leaving finger
prints.

Preparation
Make sure that all the surfaces are free of any waxes
or oils before installing any of the savers. The slightest bit of
wax will keep the adhesive from bonding properly. The lens need to
be SQUEAKY clean.
Use a mild detergent or ammonia based cleaner to
clean the lens. The surface then must also be TOTALLY dry and lint
free.

Fog Light Savers
(If not installing fog light savers drop down below to
instructions for the Headlight Savers)
If you bought both the fog savers and the headlight savers, installing
the fog savers first will give you some confidence.
|
Dry Fit
Dry fit the savers first. Just to eyeball where they go.
They may appear to be just a bit too small. But they aren't. The fog
lights lens do not have a definitive edge, so it is hard to judge
exactly where the side begin. We experimented with several different
diameters and the current diameter is the best fit overall.

 |
Applying
Get the backing started about half way and lay in place.
Notice: the paper is always between the adhesive and your
fingers.
|
 |
Removing the Backing
Once started, just continue until all the backing is removed and the
saver is in place. Gently rub out any bubbles as you go.
|
 |
Finishing
Push out any larger bubbles. You may see lots of small pin
point bubbles. That is OK. Those bubbles will disappear as the adhesive
cures.

Headlight Savers
|
Dry Fit
Each saver is matched passenger side or driver. Dry fit them to make
sure they are correct and so you are comfortable with where they go.
Once you remove the backing you can't return them for a refund.
|
 |
Cut Backing (optional)
VERY CAREFULLY cut just the backing paper with a pair of scissors. This will allow you to
start in the middle and work your way to the ends.
If you don't feel comfortable cutting the backing paper you can
always pull the paper back halfway to work out from the
middle. But then you run the chance of getting fingerprints
on the adhesive. That would leave permanent fingerprints on the
saver.
|
 |
Lay in Place
Pull back some of the backing paper in the center and apply the center to
the lens.
|
 |
Work From the Center Out
Work from the center, pushing out any bubbles as you go.
|
 |
Pull the backing from one half, and put in place.
|
 |
Work out the large bubbles from the center to the edges, even if you
have to pull the saver back up from the lens from time to time.
This is the most tedious part of the install. But time invested
here will give you a professional looking job.
|
 |
Then do the other half
|

|
Tiny Bubbles
Push out any large bubbles. You may see lots of small pin
point bubbles or crazing. This is OK. They will disappear as the adhesive
cures. In a day to three days, depending on the temperature, the bubbles
and crazing will all be gone.
|

|
Finished
When you are finished, it will be nearly impossible, even on close inspection
to tell the headlight savers are in place.
