It seems like just about every new car now has a dome light that stays on for a several seconds after you close your door.  It is great - at night, it gives you the time needed to find your key, put it in the ignition and go. No fumbling in the dark.
BUT - with all the conveniences that the Miata has, somebody at Mazda forgot to add that one little essential feature.
Now with Lights Up! you can add this great feature yourself in just 10 minutes to your Miata, or any car for that matter. Think of it, no more fumbling in the dark while you find your keys.
With Lights Up!, automotive interior light delay, the interior light in your Miata stays on from 15 to 25 seconds AFTER you close your door. This gives you plenty of time to get your keys, put your gloves on, put the key in the ignition and start your Miata. Best of all, you install Lights Up! and forget it. Once installed you don't have to do anything - it does it all for you.  (For owners of '90-'95 Miatas, this controls the lights that are already installed that illuminate the foots wells. It also works with aftermarket lights that are available for the rear view mirror.)
At $35 - it is an inexpensive addition that Mazda forgot to include on the older cars.
The Lights Up! has been sold and installed in European models of the Miata. The wiring appears to be the same at least where the installation of the Lights Up! is concerned.

Lights Up! module

This small module is all that is needed to give you the convenience of an automatic interior light delay.

This product controls the existing light receptacles, it does NOT add
lighting units to the car.

Installation Information

  • Installs in only ten minutes.
  • Special step-by-step instructions are included for the '96+ and for '90-'95 model years.
  • In the '96-2005 it installs behind the dome light.
  • In '90-'95 models it installs in the steering wheel column and controls all lights.
  • Tools needs: Screw Driver, Philips Screw Driver, Wire Cutter, Wire Stripers, Pliers.
  • Small delay module hides completely out of sight.
  • No drilling!  No Fuss!
  • If you have added other lighting accessories to the same circuit the combined wattage should be 15W or less for best performance.
